Muzan Kibutsuji: The ultimate unkillable demon king
- City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes Episode 8
- Ch 13
Muzan Kibutsuji is the first demon that was ever created and the most dangerous. He’s the big bad in Demon Slayer and the reason demons exist at all. Muzan’s real scary gimmick isn’t his power, but the fact that he can’t die from a head cut-off.
Even when the most powerful Hashira—Gyomei Himejima—does succeed in beheading him, Muzan absurdly regrows his head in an instant. He’s lived through suicide bombings, toxic gas, and innumerable other murderous assaults. In the case of Muzan, he’s so determined to become immortal that he believes he must conquer his greatest weakness, which is sunlight. His body is always growing and changing, and his regeneration makes him as hard to kill as any other demon.
“I’ve killed thousands... and yet, not once have I been punished. There is no divine wrist ready to write a line of fate across the sky.
Kokushibo: The upper-rank one with monster regeneration
- Anime Debut & Episode 45
- Ch. 99
Kokushibo, with his extreme power and skill, is the most badass demon in Muzan’s army, Upper-Rank One. As it turns out, he was originally a human samurai, and though he’s now endowed with six eyes and superhuman abilities, he continues to wield a sword. Kokushibo is able to continue fighting even after having his head cut off and becomes a terrifying monster after being decapitated.
This eerie transformation additionally enables him to continue fighting, regenerate at a much quicker pace, and intimidate even the most fearless Hashira. He’s over 400 years old and has honed his demonic powers to a nearly perfect form.
Doma : The smiling killer who grows his head back
Doma is engaging, funny, brilliant and pure evil. He’s the head of a death cult and entraps unsuspecting humans into his temple—only to consume them. Ranked Upper-Rank Two, Doma conceals his viciousness with a facade of kindness. When provoked, he transforms into a relentless bloodthirsty monster.
At one point in a council of the Upper-Rank demons, Akaza literally knocks Doma’s head off. Doma nonchalantly regrows his head in a matter of seconds, laughing off the blow like a punchline. That moment highlights not only how difficult it will be to finally defeat him but also why even other demons are terrified of him.
Akaza the warrior who fights with his head cut off
- Anime Debut Story Arc Episode 032
- Chapter 63
Akaza is a martial arts master who – after being defeated by an even more powerful martial artist – chose to become a demon in order to gain strength. Corrupted Ranked Upper-Rank Three, he reveres only the strongest fighters. Yet, he holds a disdain for the weak. During his battle with Kyojuro Rengoku, Akaza demonstrates just how out-of-this-world his regenerative abilities truly are.
Even after his own head is cut off, Akaza continues the fight, unleashing devastation with every strike while still being able to move with incredible speed and accuracy. He’s able to regrow a new head through sheer force of will… and a burning desire to be the strongest fighter in the universe. Even sans cranium, he’s pretty much a force of nature. He is one of the most powerful foes the Demon Slayers ever come up against and DEADLIEST.
Here’s why head regeneration is so terrifying in Demon Slayer
On Demon Slayer, it turns out to kill an enemy demon is pretty straightforward – just cut off their head with your Nichirin sword of choice. If some of those demons can withstand Arkham, that completely flips the script on the fight. These harrowing beasts of the netherworld test the limits of the Demon Slayers and push them to discover novel methods and risk it all simply to stay alive.
While fans are drawn to strength and explosive powers that the action brings to the show, it’s villains like these that up the ante. While their near mortality means no fight is truly life or death, the threat of near-immortality makes every fight have that stakes.
