Rahul Gandhi to visit Kanpur on April 30 to meet kin of Pahalgam terror attack victim

NEW DELHI: Congress MP and opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to make a brief stop in Kanpur on Wednesday to visit the family of Shubham Dwivedi, one of the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
"After completing his Raebareli and Amethi visit, Rahul ji would visit Shubham's family in Kanpur," UP Congress Committee chief Ajay Rai said on Tuesday.
Gandhi commenced his two-day visit to Raebareli, his Lok Sabha constituency, and Amethi, where he previously served as MP thrice, on Tuesday.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Gandhi addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a joint session of both houses of Parliament regarding the Pahalgam attack.
Rai noted that Gandhi had immediately travelled to Kashmir following the terror strike to meet the affected families.
"When it comes to matters of national unity the Congress and its leadership have always put the nation first. Rahul ji plans to meet Shubham's kin to share their grief and assure them that the Congress party stands with them at this moment," stated Rai, who attended Shubham's final rites on April 23.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited Kanpur on April 23 to meet Shubham's family.
Following the meeting, Adityanath assured that authorities would pursue all avenues to ensure justice for the Pahalgam terror strike victims.
Upon arriving at Lucknow airport on Tuesday, Gandhi proceeded to Raebareli, where he interacted with locals before unveiling Subhas Chandra Bose's statue at Civil Lines Chauraha.
Prior to his arrival in Raebareli, several BJP members displayed posters criticising Gandhi. "Tum jaativaad se todoge, hum rashtravaad se jodenge," read a poster by a local BJP leader in Harchandpur.
A Congress social media post titled 'Gayab', seemingly criticising BJP leadership over the Pahalgam incident, sparked controversy with BJP leaders expressing strong objections.
Shubham Dwivedi, a 31-year-old businessman from Kanpur who married on February 12, was fatally attacked in front of his wife in Kashmir's Pahalgam.
He had embarked on a week-long holiday to Kashmir on April 16, accompanied by his wife and nine family members.
