Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi Movie Review : Kalyan Ram, Vijayashanthi power this emotional yet loud action drama

Critic's Rating: 3.0/5
Story: Set in Visakhapatnam, Arjun S/o Vyjayanthi, directed by Pradeep Chilukuri, follows Arjun (Kalyan Ram), an IPS aspirant turned gangster, whose transformation strains ties with his principled mother, Vyjayanthi (Vijayashanthi). As a new threat looms in the form of Pathaan (Sohail Khan), their bond is put to the test.

Review: Arjun S/o Vyjayanthi banks heavily on the emotional weight of its central mother-son relationship. The bond—and rivalry—between Arjun and Vyjayanthi forms the film’s spine, giving it a degree of emotional edge even when the narrative takes an all-too-familiar route. The storytelling follows a well-worn commercial template, replete with punchy dialogues, slow-motion elevations, and gravity-defying action.

Kalyan Ram delivers a gritty, convincing performance as Arjun, effectively portraying both the anguish of a conflicted son and the aggression of a rising don. Vijayashanthi, making a strong return, lends dignity and strength to Vyjayanthi. Her commanding screen presence and understated emotional delivery elevate several moments in the film. Saiee Manjrekar appears in a limited but graceful role, while Sohail Khan fits the mould as a loud, menacing villain. Srikanth lends quiet support in a restrained role.

The film scores high on style. Ram Prasad’s cinematography captures Visakhapatnam with flair—be it dusky alleys, police quarters, or neon-lit underworld dens. The production values are polished, with stylised action choreography that caters to the mass-audience palate. B. Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score heightens the drama, though the songs themselves don’t linger long after the credits.

At times, the film is weighed down by rhetoric. The loudness—be it in its dialogues, score, or emotional beats—can feel overbearing. Some dramatic dialogues and over-the-top stunts might not work for everyone, and the film’s tone occasionally teeters on excess.

If you enjoy high-octane action dramas with emotional undertones and don’t mind a bit of cinematic flamboyance, this one ticks the boxes. Watch it for Vijayashanthi’s compelling comeback and Kalyan Ram’s intense presence.
