Uncertainty looms over Dodgers’ $2 million pitching star after being defeated by Cubs

After an embarrassing loss against the Chicago Cubs, uncertainty looms over the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching star Dustin May. The Dodgers star was welcomed back by the team during the recent face-off against the Atlanta Braves after being off the field due to a life-threatening medical condition. MLB insiders believe that after pitcher Justin Steele's exit due to his Tommy John surgery, May is the perfect fit for the Chicago Cubs.

After creating a franchise record with a promising start to the 2025 MLB season, the Los Angeles Dodgers witnessed a sharp fall after losing a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. They not only made headlines for the wrong reasons but also came down to the third position after the San Francisco Giants and Padres on the National League West table. According to the MLB rumor mill, the embarrassing loss of the Dodgers has taken a toll on their resurgent $2 million prospect Dustin May, who joined the team recently after almost a year’s gap.

Dodgers’ humiliating loss against the Cubs might create problems for Dustin May

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed Dustin May with open arms during the ongoing major league season. With a long list of talented pitching stars already on the team roster, the addition of May was no less than an addition that did not add much value to the pitching depth. Reportedly, after signing a $2 million deal with the Dodgers back in 2023, he managed to make only 14 appearances and resumed during the recent game against the Atlanta Braves.
According to the rumor mill in the major league world, after the return of prominent names including Shohei Ohtani, Tony Gonsolin, and Clayton Kershaw, there is a strong possibility that Dodgers pitching star Dustin May might have to bear the consequences. Recently, reputed media outlet The Athlon’s Jon Conahan made a bold prediction about May’s exit from the Dodgers. He said-
"While it might not be fair to move on from May, considering he's done nothing but throw the baseball at an above-average level when he's healthy, there isn't much room for him on the current roster. The Dodgers have a deep rotation, and May could be the odd man out in it."
He even wrote about his possible entry into the Chicago Cubs roster, which mentioned
"There are a few teams that could use him, including the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have a need for a right-handed starter, and after a quiet opening series (against) the Arizona Diamondbacks, it's clear they could use another top end arm."

As Cubs left-handed pitcher Justin Steele would be missing the 2025 MLB season due to his Tommy John surgery, media outlet FanSided’s Michael Breakbill even spoke about Dustin May’s possible entry into the Cubs. He wrote-
"May currently owns a 0.82 ERA through two starts, and given the injury history and pending free agency, it's unlikely the Dodgers would land anything close to a top-tier prospect for his services.”
He further added-
“It's also unlikely May will stay in the starting rotation once Snell, Ohtani, and Gonsolin are back. Their bullpen is also loaded, so we'll need to keep an eye on May when it comes time for roster moves in L.A. The Cubs can help the Dodgers with that problem while addressing an issue of their own."
Dodgers’ pitching star Dustin May’s re-entry into the team made headlines during the face-off against the Atlanta Braves during the ongoing major league season. Uncertainty looms over May’s stint with the Dodgers as the speculations around his addition to the Chicago Cubs roster are doing the rounds of the MLB world.
